Is Ranveer Taking a Fee Cut to Make Deepika Affordable For Padmavati?
Can this be considered a positive move by the filmmakers towards equal pay in a male dominated industry?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's another dream project Padmavati is all set to go on floors earlier next year. The film starring Deepika Padukone in the title role with Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor as Alauddin Khilji and Rawal Ratan Singh respectively is one of the most anticipated releases.

Reports have been going around about Deepika Padukone getting Rs 11 crore for the film. The actress has just completed her maiden Hollywood project XXX: Return of Xander Cage opposite Vin Diesel and has also entered the Forbes List of highest paid actors. Rumour has it that Bhansali has offered Padukone more money than his leading man Ranveer.

Recently, Ranveer Singh has opened about all the speculations. While talking to a leading daily, the actor said, "Let me put it this way, if I am the leading man of a film, and if the filmmaker is asking me to support him in a certain aspect so as not to burden the budget of the film, I will do whatever I can to support his vision."

So is the Befikre star taking a budget cut on his fees so that Bhansali can afford Deepika Padukone as Padmavati? Well, the statement given by him suggests so. This is not the first time that Deepika is getting paid more than the actor in the film. A while back, Amitabh Bachchan admitted that the actress was paid more than him for Piku.

Can this be considered a positive move by the filmmakers towards equal pay in a male dominated industry? Well, it's just one actress who is currently ruling the Bollywood right now. While Deepika's fee is much less than what is offered to the three Khans and Akshay Kumar, she is undoubtedly earning more than her contemporaries male actors and that is a positive step.

The way Ranveer Singh has put an end to all the speculations is commendable and shows how Bollywood's new crop of actors are ready to accept more fluid financial norms of the industry irrespective of age-old gender disparity.
