While their relationship saw several complexities in the Harry Potter films, actor Daniel Radcliffe recently opened up on how he was terrified of Alan Rickman in real life as well.

It has been over two decades since audiences were introduced to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. In November 2001, J.K. Rowling’s bestselling novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was brought to life by young stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in theatres. With over 20 years since its release and eight films in the franchise, Harry Potter films have continued to hold a devoted fan following for years now. Besides the leading trio of Harry, Hermoine, and Ronald, the other characters of Professor Snape and Professor Dumbledore were also loved widely among fans.

Speaking of which, Harry Potter’s relationship with Professor Snake is shown to be quite complicated throughout the franchise. Snape who was bullied by James Potter, the husband of the woman he loved, later came in front with their son, Harry.

While their relationship saw several complexities in the Harry Potter films, actor Daniel Radcliffe recently opened up on how he was terrified of the actor in real life as well.

Daniel Radcliffe admits being ‘terrified’ of Alan Rickman while filming Harry Potter

During his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez, Daniel was shown an old interview featuring Alan Rickman where the late actor praised Radcliffe.

Visibly moved by Rickman’s comments, Daniel began by thanking the host for showing him the clip that he had never seen before.

“I was so intimidated by Alan Rickman. How can you not be by that voice? Even hearing that voice you forget quite how low it was until it echoes through you. I was so intimidated by him for the first three movies. I was terrified by him and was like, ‘This guy hates me.’ Somewhere along the lines, he saw that I really wanted to do this and work at it,” he said.

The actor also went on to recall how Rickman became one of his biggest supporters, even once coming back from his vacation early to catch Radcliffe’s play on Broadway. “He saw every piece of stage work I ever did when he was alive. He would take me out afterwards and we would talk about it. He was one of the first people to ask me to consider voice coaching,” he continued.
