Korean pop idols are often held to incredibly high standards, where even the slightest misstep can lead to major controversy. Recently, BTS’s Suga found himself at the centre of such a storm, facing backlash over his Driving under the influence (DUI) case. Anti-fans took their protests to an extreme, sending funeral wreaths to HYBE’s Seoul headquarters, demanding his removal from the group. However, as the criticism escalated, Suga’s loyal fanbase, ARMY, quickly rallied to his defence, proving once again that Suga isn’t standing alone.

On October 20, a group of anti-fans sent funeral wreaths to HYBE’s Seoul headquarters, demanding that Suga be removed from BTS. These critics argued that the Haegeum rapper should step down from the group. However, as soon as the news circulated, ARMY members gathered outside HYBE’s building, showing Suga an outpouring of love and support. They waved banners, tied purple ribbons and chanted positive slogans to lift the rapper’s spirits.

Fans who couldn’t be there in person rallied on social media, flooding platforms with supportive messages and wishes for Suga, especially on X (formerly Twitter).

On August 6, Suga was stopped by police for operating an electric scooter while intoxicated. He later issued a public apology, writing, “Last night after drinking at dinner, I went home by riding an electric scooter. I violated the traffic laws due to me thinking easily that it’s close distance and not recognising that it is not allowed to ride an electric scooter after drinking.” He added, “I bow my head and apologize to everyone,” reports Koreaboo.

The BTS star was reportedly questioned for three hours on August 23 at Yongsan Police Station, where he admitted his mistake and apologised again. Prosecutors eventually fined him 15 million won (Rs 9 lakh), concluding the case without a trial.
