After Indian 2’s Failure, Indian 3 To Skip Theatrical Release? What We Know
Indian 2 was one of the most highly anticipated films this year.

Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2 received a lukewarm response at the box office upon its release in July this year. It was one of the most highly anticipated films this year. It was the sequel to a blockbuster film Indian, which was released in 1996. After 28 years, the sequel of this film was lined up with acclaimed director Shankar at its helm. The sequel of Indian had an ensemble cast including SJ Suryah, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Siddharth and Samuthirakani in the prominent roles, apart from Kamal Haasan, who was in the lead role. Due to the negative response, the makers have reportedly decided to skip the theatrical release of Indian 3. They are planning to release the third instalment of the film on the OTT platform.

Indian 2’s negative reviews didn’t help the movie scale. Due to its dull performance, the makers have reportedly decided to go for a direct OTT release for Indian 3, the third part in the vigilante franchise. As per reports, the decision behind this move is the underwhelming performance of Indian 2 and a pre-existing agreement with the OTT platform.

The film was produced under the banner of Lyca Productions, which is famous for handling big-budget films. It is known that the production house is suffering through several delays for their projects. Though this may come as a surprise to many in the Kollywood industry, some insiders suggest that the skipping theatrical release of Indian 3 is a well-considered decision made by everyone associated with the project.

Indian 2 ranks among the biggest flops of this year. The production house is doing all it can to revive the project to aim for success. The recent developments indicate an uncertain and bleak future for the Indian franchise. The makers have not confirmed the OTT release of the film yet.

Indian 2 is currently streaming on Netflix. It was released on August 9. Made under a budget of Rs 300 crore, the film collected Rs 151 crore worldwide.
