Aashiqui Star Anu Aggarwal Was Asked To Go Topless In Film, Told It'd Be A Night Shoot: 'I Was Shocked'
Anu Aggarwal, known for ‘Aashiqui,’ shocked fans with a topless scene in ‘The Cloud Door,’ which later went to Cannes.

Anu Aggarwal, best known for her role in ‘Aashiqui,’ shocked fans with a daring topless scene in the short film ‘The Cloud Door,’ which later made it to The Cannes Film Festival. What’s even surprising? This bold scene was shot only after the film’s festival selection. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Anu revealed that she was shocked when the director suggested the scene.

At first, Anu shot down the idea, claiming it wasn’t in the original script. The ‘Aashiqui’ star was blindsided by the topless scene, which wasn’t mentioned when she first saw the script. On the 29th day of filming, the director suddenly sprung the scene on her, leaving her stunned. “While we were shooting, the entire 30-day shoot was almost complete, on the 29th day or so, he came and told me about this scene, saying it would be a night shoot. I was shocked. I asked, “What do you mean?” I told him, “This wasn’t in the script. Based on that, I won’t do it.” It’s not that I couldn’t do it, but I chose not to,” she said.

After finishing the shoot and returning to Mumbai, Anu began to question her decision. She felt it was unethical and should have been included in the script from the beginning so she could make an informed choice. “Being topless in public is not something everyone does every day. It’s a different thing. A month later, the director called and said the film was chosen, but she insisted the scene should be there. I was surprised and thought, What does it mean to her if I go topless? Finally, I agreed to do the scene and went back just to shoot that. It made me so sad because I felt that if it was about the film, I could have taken a break from it. If I was the lead, I would obviously cover myself up, but as an actor, this was a challenge, so I accepted it. I said, ‘I will do it,”’ she recalled.

After a brief stint as a model and VJ and an appearance in the Doordarshan series Isi Bahane (1988), she made her Bollywood debut with the musical blockbuster Aashiqui, after which she was in high demand. In 1999, she returned to Mumbai when she met with a car accident.
