Aamir Khan has been offering steadfast support to his ex-wife Reena Dutta during this difficult time, following the passing of her father on Wednesday. The actor was spotted leaving her home in Mumbai, visibly emotional. The funeral took place on Thursday, October 3, in Mumbai. In videos circulating online, Aamir, dressed in an off-white kurta and cotton pants, appears inconsolable as he exits the crematorium.
In another video, Aamir is seen solemnly assessing the situation as the mortal remains of Reena Dutta’s father are taken out of the house and placed in the ambulance. The actor’s son, Junaid Khan, daughter, Ira Khan, and ex-wife Kiran Rao were also present at the funeral, offering their support to Reena Dutta and her family during this time of loss.
As reported by Indian Express, Reena Dutta and Aamir Khan, who got married in 1986 and divorced in 2002, continue to live in the same building complex. They share two children, Ira and Junaid. While Ira has ventured into theatre direction, Junaid is pursuing a career in acting, following in his father’s footsteps.
In a 1999 interview with Simi Garewal, Aamir Khan admitted that Reena’s parents were not happy with their relationship. The couple decided to elope when Aamir was in his early 20s, and Reena was still a teenager. He explained that their decision wasn’t driven by rebellion but rather insecurity. Following his divorce from Reena, Aamir married filmmaker Kiran Rao, with whom he later separated in 2021. Despite the separations, Aamir maintains a good relationship with both his ex-wives.
Interestingly, Aamir’s then-wife Reena was also a producer for his blockbuster, Lagaan. However, that was not the only involvement she had in her career. Aamir’s first big break Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak saw a cameo of Reena, who appeared for a brief moment in the song Papa Kehta Hai. The couple were already married then, but it was kept under wraps.
