Intermittent fasting has been very popular for many years among fitness enthusiasts. It is helpful in regulating our diet and losing weight. The benefits gained from intermittent fasting are well documented with many reports on the same. But a recent study that suggests intermittent fasting may put your heart health at risk has rattled the fitness world. Intermittent fasting can increase the chances of death from heart disease by 91 percent, according to studies. The presentation of this discovery took place at the American Heart Association’s medical conference in Chicago on March 18. The association confirms that the study underwent peer review by other experts prior to its presentation. Conducted by a team led by researcher Victor Zhong from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the study has led fitness enthusiasts to reconsider the process they implement during intermittent fasting.
One of the main things that you need to determine before going for it is that you know how to implement it. There are various things to be kept in mind while going for intermittent fasting and we are listing out some of them.
Timing and Timespan of the fast: Decide in advance the time of your fast as per your convenience. It varies from person to person. Most people prefer fasts that are usually 14 hours to 16 hours long. Experts recommend starting with 12 and then move up to 14 once your body gets used to the calorie deficit.
What to eat during meal time: What you eat at your meal time is very important. Choose foods that are low in calories and high in protein and fibre.
What to eat during a fast period: Remember that the goal is to keep your body devoid of calorie intake for a long time but not to deny it of energy. So you need to take in complex carbohydrates and easily digestible foods during the fast.
Hydration: We should ensure that our body does not get dehydrated throughout the day. Only then will the metabolism work faster and weight loss accelerate. Keep your water and fluid intake stable.
