Bhut Jolokia, also known as ghost pepper, ghost chili, U-morok, red naga, naga jolokia and ghost jolokia, is an interspecific hybrid chili pepper cultivated in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.

A hybrid of Capsicum chinense and Capsicum frutescens, Bhut Jolokia is closely related to the Naga morich of Bangladesh.

The Guinness Book of World Records certified it as the world's hottest chili pepper in 2007. 400 times hotter than Tabasco sauce, Ghost chili is rated at more than 1 million Scoville heat units (SHUs).

It is used in both fresh and dried forms to heat up curries, pickles and chutneys.

Here is a recipe of Ghost Pepper:

Ingredients:

Olive oil

Bhut Jolokia/ Ghost Pepper

Onion, diced

Tomatoes

Red wine vinegar

Salt

Water

Method:

Take a pan and add 3 tablespoons of olive oil.

Add chopped Ghost Pepper and onions.

Stir well and add chopped tomatoes. Cook for 10 minutes.

Add vinegar, salt and water.

Simmer 20 minutes to allow flavors to develop.

Put it all in a mixer and process until smooth.

Transfer to a container. Seal and refrigerate until ready to use
