New Delhi: Khadi, the fabric of independence has found a new voice in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his message to the Gujarat State Khadi and Village Industries Board (GSKVIB), he appreciated their efforts in organising the Vibrant Gujarat Khadi Utsav, making Khadi fashionable once again.
Keeping this in mind, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) along with GSKVIB has engineered a quintessentially aesthetic event, aptly titled "From Huts to the High-Street", an eclectic fashion showcasing. It will be held at the Sardar Patel National Memorial, Ahmedabad, on January 17, 2015.
President FDCI, Sunil Sethi, says, "We are honoured to be associated with the Gujarat State Khadi and Village Industries Board, in support of Khadi in India. What makes this association special, is that Khadi, which is ideal for Indian weather will be brought to the forefront. We hope that we all will have at least one Khadi piece in our wardrobe, which will in turn help weavers. I am also thankful to Mr. Jai Shroff, Chief Executive Office, United Phosphorous Limited, without whose support this event would not have been possible."
Speaking about the event, Mr. O Ravi (IAS), Member Secretary-GSKVIB (Govt. of Gujrat), said, "Gandhi ji was a passionate champion of a life pattern based on three cardinal prinicples- simplicity, slowness and smallness. Khadi embodies these values and I am thrilled to be part of this vision of making Khadi a part of every Indian household."
The spectacular showcasing will see collections specially crafted using this hand-spun fabric, by designers Anamika Khanna, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Rohit Bal. Khadi's celebration will be witnessed by prominent personalities from myriad fields----industrialists, textile aficionados, senior level bureaucrats, members of the film industry and students, supporting this organic wonder in Gujarat.
A special performance by Samandar Khan, renowned Manganiyar vocalist from Barmer, Rajasthan will effortlessly customise the music to the theme of the show.
