Farm-to-face Skincare is The Future of Beauty
The concept of farm-to-face beauty has been growing for a few years now and much like farm-to-table cuisine, this concept demands clarity from skincare brands.

The world of beauty and self-care seems to be blending with the rise of the skincare industry. It is easy to get lost amidst all the options available in the market, however, the appeal of natural products continues to reign. The concept of farm-to-face beauty has been growing for a few years now and much like farm-to-table cuisine, this concept demands clarity from skincare brands.

According to Refinery, the farm-to-face concept has become more relevant in recent years as skincare influencers on social media break down the importance and harmful effects of ingredients in our products. Beauty enthusiasts demand greater transparency from their favourite brands. Skincare brands are now compelled to share the process that products go through before landing on our shelves. It is a movement that signifies the awakening of consumers who no longer want to know just what effect a formula will have on their skin, but also exactly where the ingredients come from.

Case in point, US-based brand Farmacy is proud to call itself a “Conscious skincare” brand. Its co-founder Mark Veeder tells Refinery that the brand’s concept is rooted in ingredients, which he harvests on his farm in upstate New York. He told the website, “Our products are centered around powerful farmer-cultivated ingredients, ensuring that the full potential of these ingredients is preserved through a meticulous process.” Veeder also revealed that Farmacy controls their key, exclusive ingredients, from hand-planting to employing organic growing methods, and they hand-harvest the root and apply science to extract, stabilise, and supercharge the potent active ingredients.

Another brand that has been practicing this concept is Tata Harper’s eponymous skincare brand. According to Refinery, ever since it was launched, each and every ingredient used in the products has foraged from the Harper’s property in Vermont.

Explaining her thoughts on the concept, she told Refinery, “Traditionally, ‘farm-to-face’ means ingredients that come from local sources.” She added that her factory is situated on her farm so the company makes all products on site.
