Does Ghee Harm Dogs? Expert Busts The Myth
Dogs are carnivorous creatures, and their first priority food is always meat and eggs.

There is a popular saying which says that dogs cannot digest ghee. It’s likely to have originated from how certain food and substances might affect the animal. Many pet owners don’t feed ghee to their dogs as they feel that they might fall ill or suffer some disease. In such a situation, Haravtar Singh, a veterinary doctor calls it a false assumption and said that dogs have a good digestive system. He is currently serving at Harry Pets Clinic and Surgery Center, which is located in Yamuna Vihar, Delhi. According to Dr Haravtar Singh, dogs have good metabolism and they can digest meat and bones easily. Therefore, with such capability in hand, it would be incorrect to say that dogs cannot digest ghee, said Dr Haravtar Singh. He advises to feed ghee to the dogs in limited quantities. Large amounts of ghee can disrupt their digestive system.

Since dogs are carnivorous creatures, their first priority food should always be meat and eggs. Dr Haravtar Singh says that generally this saying is used for humans and from a medical point of view, but it has nothing to do with dogs.

“Till now many researches have revealed that feeding small amounts of ghee to dogs can have many benefits. Those who believe that by feeding ghee soaked bread or other food items the dog will die or fall ill, they are wrong,” added Dr Haravtar Singh.

According to health experts, people who do not eat non-veg and wish to keep dogs at home, can feed soybean and cheese to their pets. These are also high in protein. It should also be noted that nothing should be fed in high quantities. You must prepare a diet chart. It is made based on the breed of the dog and their activity. You can consult your nearest veterinary doctor or dog expert to prepare a diet chart. Apart from a good diet, enough exercise is also needed for them to stay fit and vigilant. A dog’s diet should contain moderate amounts of quality animal protein such as meat or eggs with omega 3 fat rich foods, and should also include fish and vegetables.
