For fans of Korean actress Han Hyo-joo and Japanese actor Oguri Shun, there is a piece of good news. The duo is set to star together in an upcoming drama. The announcement came on March 13, as reported by Ilgan Sports, with industry insiders revealing that Han Hyo-joo had landed a role in the Japanese Netflix series titled Romantic Anonymous (literal title), alongside Oguri Shun. Confirming the casting, a source from BH Entertainment stated, “She has been cast in the project, and [the series] has begun filming,” according to Soompi.
Romantic Anonymous is inspired by Jean-Pierre Ameris’s film of the same name, known for its heartwarming portrayal of romance amidst social anxieties. The series will be directed by Shô Tsukikawa, acclaimed for his work on films like I Want To Eat Your Pancreas and The 100th Love With You. In the upcoming series, Han Hyo-joo portrays the female lead, a character grappling with social phobia but having remarkable skills in chocolate making.
Meanwhile, actor Oguri Shun takes on the male lead in the role of the store owner where Han Hyo-joo finds employment, sharing her struggles with anxiety. The prospect of Han Hyo-joo and Oguri Shun teaming up for a romantic comedy has sparked widespread anticipation among audiences in both Korea and Japan.
Han Hyo-joo, known for her versatile performances in projects like the Disney+ series Moving and Netflix movie Doctor 2, brings a wealth of experience, having previously appeared in Japanese films such as Clumsy, But Love and The Sun Doesn’t Move. Her return to the romantic comedy genre after a hiatus is expected to excite viewers.
On the other hand, Oguri Shun boasts a sizable fan base spanning both nations, with a career spanning back to his breakout role in the 1998 TV drama GTO. He gained further prominence in Japan through series like Gokusen and Girl Swordsman Azumi Great Battle, before capturing international attention with hits like Boys Over Flowers. His Korean fans also remember him for his roles in Crows Zero and Gintama.
As filming progresses and anticipation mounts, Romantic Anonymous promises to deliver a delightful blend of romance and comedy, propelled by the chemistry between Han Hyo-joo and Oguri Shun. Filming for the show is already in progress and it will be released on Netflix in Japan.
