Reiterating her opposition to FDI in multi-brand retailing, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, on Friday, termed the nod given to the policy by the Central Government as “undemocratic” and “against people’s interest” and said that her government will never allow FDI in retail trade in Tamil Nadu.
In a strongly worded statement, the Chief Minister said the decision of the Central government to open up FDI in multi-brand retailing and aviation sector showed the utter disregard for the sensitivity of the issue.
After giving a rude shock to the people on Thursday by making an unprecedented hike in diesel price, she said the Centre has given yet another blow to the common man.
The CM said she had already stated that FDI in retail will neither bring down prices nor will it improve the investment climate.
“It will only promote large monsters in the name of MNCs and would destroy small and marginal traders,” she pointed out.
Stating that the decision would only fuel uncertainty and cripple the growth of the economy, she demanded that the Centre immediately withdraw the decision.
