New Delhi: National Security Advisor MK Narayanan said on Saturday India would take up China’s stand at the NSG meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who arrived in Kolkata on Sunday on a three-day visit.
But while NSA expressed his displeasure, India seems inclined to leave the matter at that.
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the Chinese Foreign Minister will be welcomed “as an honoured guest”.
"Every sovereign country has its own sovereign will. As far as China's Foreign Minister visiting India is concerned, he is a distinct guest and we welcome him," Pranab said.
Yang, who reaches in New Delhi on Monday, will call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and later hold talks with Pranab Mukherjee.
Beijing's stand at the Vienna meeting came as a surprise to India especially after Chinese President Hu Jintato and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao had assured support.
The border issue and bilateral trade are also expected to come up for discussion in the talks between Mukherjee and Yang.
The two countries have so far held 11 rounds of talks on the boundary issue.
Sino-Indian trade is at present to the tune of 38.7 billion dollars and the two sides have agreed to push it up to $60 billion by 2010.
