BANGALORE: After a successful launch in Tamil Nadu in April 2011, CellSniper has made its way to Karnataka. The Malaysian-based award winning mobile security application, exported by UK-based NSS and distributed by GSM Technology in Karnataka, fashioned to protect privacy and check misuse of stored data in lost or stolen mobile phones was launched in the city on Monday.“The response in Tamil Nadu was amazing. That's why we are extending it to the rest of the country. Very soon, we will launch it in Andhra Pradesh as well," said Shiby Lidya R, the manager of GSM Technology. If a person’s phone is lost or stolen, the technology will enable the user to facilitate an automatic lock system in three minutes, and when the phone is retrieved, it can be unlocked by a password known only to that person. CellSniper also comes with features that will help the owner trace the phone even if another SIM card is inserted in the lost or stolen cell. When a new SIM card is installed, alert messages are sent to a list of 10 numbers that are predetermined by the owner, alerting them that the handset is in use but with another number. The alert message will also send the IMEI number and the information regarding the location, pinpointing the latitude and longitude. “It will enable the user to trace the phone that is lost or stolen to any part of the world,” said Shiby.Through an option called Wipe, CellSniper can also delete all personal information stored on the phone (messages, contact information and so on) through the means of an SMS using a WIPE code string that the owner controls. Another feature, called ‘The Remote Call Back’ enables the user to listen to the conversations of the person who has stolen the phone. And this can be done by sending a normal SMS to the number received through the alert message. When the user sends a call back SMS to the target phone, the mobile will automatically call back from which the remote call back message came from. For more details, visit www. cellsniper.net.
