East Midnapore: In a new twist in the death of a 32-year-old woman in East Midnapore, the post mortem report reveals that there were no signs of external injuries or sexual assault on her body. According to the report, the cause of death was due to hanging and a case of suicide has been suspected.

The victim was the wife of a CPM leader who had fled from the village when TMC came to power in the state long time ago in the wake of alleged TMC domination. The party has claimed that the woman was murdered and gangraped by TMC activists. CPM workers held protests outside the police station - demanding immediate action to nab the culprits. However, TMC has denied the allegations.

"The TMC workers demanded Rs 12 lakh from the victim. They stripped and assaulted her near the village chowk. We complained to the police to protect her but police did not take any action. They again returned and raped her. She was hanged to show it as suicide," a CPM member said.

The victim was allegedly fined Rs 12 lakh for her proximity to CPM and was later allegedly tortured when she refused to pay off. Her body was found hanging in a room inside her house. No arrests have been made so far.
