THRISSUR: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has said that there are efforts to spread superstition among the public in connection with the unearthing of treasure at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.He was speaking at the valedictory function of the state meeting of Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) in Thrissur on Sunday. “These astrologers can frighten the courts. The vested interests are defying the steps taken as per the Supreme Court directive,” Achuthanandan said and urged the media to contemplate whether the journalists were becoming the campaigners of superstition.He said the mainstream media failed in being instrumental in bringing out the corruption. “It is the judiciary which initiated action against corruption. The mainstream media was trying cover up the 2G spectrum scam,” he said.VS added that independent journalism had died and the interests and viewpoints of media owners were controlling the news. “A journalist should be intelligent and have his own viewpoint and creativity instead of becoming a slave of the owner,” V S said. Cooperation Minister C N Balakrishnan was the chief guest. KUWJ state president K C Rajagopal presided over the function.
