KANNUR: The violence and destruction of property indulged in by SFI students during their recent agitation have proved too costly for them. Nine SFI workers arrested by the police here in this connection had to deposit an amount of `2.5 lakh as directed by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court before they were granted bail.This follows the High Court directive that, while granting bail, those arrested in connection with the destruction of public property should be asked to deposit as security the estimated amount of loss caused by them.The SFI workers had been remanded in judicial custody after their arrest in connection with the attack on the traffic police station and some government buildings during the agitation launched by the former in protest against the police firing in Kozhikode recently.They had targeted the residences of the District Collector, DIG of Police and the office of the Regional Forensic Laboratory, among others.
