Fearless and eminent journalist, Vinod Mehta (72), who died on March 8, 2015, was one of the most influential editors of India. He worked with many successful publications such as the India Post, Sunday Observer, The Independent, The Pioneer and finally launched Outlook. He was also the chairman of the Outlook group.
Mehta was born on May 31, 1942 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. His journey started from the streets of Lucknow to the elite strata of India's most famous media names. He graduated from Lucknow University and worked with a series of popular publications including The Sunday Observer, The Independent and The Pioneer.
The acclaimed journalist on February 9, 2015 was awarded the Yash Bharti Samman 2015 by the government of Uttar Pradesh. This award is given by the UP government for excellence in literature, fine arts, folks, sports and classical music.
He was presently an advisor and administrator to Outlook magazine. Mehta was also seen on TV shows and debates. He was called by TV news channel editors as a senior journalist and a political analyst.
In his autobiography, 'Lucknow Boy: A Memoir', Mehta explained his efforts in establishing Outlook and The Sunday Observer in the initial stages. Based on his vast experience, this autobiography holds a treasure chest of inspiring and interesting instances from his life. His autobiography talks about the days he spent at The New Statesman, The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian, and as the Editor of Debonair.
The book also contains crisp anecdotes on other renowned figures like Salman Rushdie, Sonia Gandhi, and Shobhaa De.
