Washington: The United States was quick to condemn the blasts in Varanasi that killed at least 20 persons and injured many, calling them "acts of terrorism".
"It is quite clear that these are acts of terrorism, although at this point I can't tell you who's responsible for these bombings. So we would certainly condemn these acts", State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said on Tuesday.
He also offered condolences and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
"Our hearts go out to those who’ve lost loved ones and we wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured in these bomb blasts," McCormack said, adding that he did not have any information at this time as to who was behind the attacks.
"At this point I don’t have any information that any American citizens were affected by this, but again, we are still in the early moments of the aftermath of these bombings," McCormack said.
