An American citizen was shot inside his home in Punjab’s Amritsar on Saturday morning. The incident from Daburji village, which was captured on CCTV, shows two men entering the residence and opening fire on Sukhchain Singh, who was struck by three bullets.
Sukhchain was rushed to a hospital in Amritsar and is reported to be in critical condition, according to media reports. In a video going viral on the internet, the victim’s family members are seen attempting to intervene and pleading with the assailants to stop. Despite their efforts, the attackers shot Singh in the head and neck before fleeing the scene.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), shared a video of the incident on social media accounts, condemning the “deteriorating law and order situation” in the state of Punjab.
Badal expressed his sorrow over the attack, noting that Singh’s mother and child were helplessly pleading for his life. The SAD chief criticised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stating that such violent incidents are occurring regularly under his administration and called for his resignation on moral grounds.
“The law and order situation in Punjab has completely deteriorated, I am very sad to see the situation in Punjab today, this morning the miscreants entered the house of NRI Veer Sukhchain Singh of Duburji, Sri Amritsar Sahib and opened fire. Mother is folding her hands to save her son and innocent child to save her father but the ruthless miscreants did not listen to one. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann,” he said in a post on X.
“Such incidents are happening every day in your state, Punjabis are not safe even in their homes, I think you should resign on moral grounds… I pray for the recovery of Sukhchain Singh, who is undergoing treatment for the badly injured,” he added.
