Srinagar: Two terrorists were on Thursday gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, police said.
Security forces launched a search and cordon operation in Newa area of Pulwama district following information about presence of terrorists in the area, a police official said.
He said the terrorists hiding inside a house were asked to surrender but they chose to open fire on the security forces' positions.
Two security force personnel were hurt in the operation, the official said adding the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists was being ascertained.
According to intel sources, one of the two terrorists killed in Pulwama was a Pakistani fidayeen.
As the security forces were engaged in the operation, a group of local residents started pelting stones at them. The forces fired pellet guns to disperse the mob, resulting in injuries to four civilians, the official said. The situation in the area is tense but under control, he added.
