TRS sit-in for 7-hour power to farmers

Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsTelangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislators on Saturday staged a dharna in front of the Transco office in the capital demanding seven hours of power supply to farmers.After their sit-in, the legislators submitted a memorandum to the Transco officials accusing the power utility of resorting to  unscheduled power cuts causing a huge loss to the farming community.Transco officials assured the legislators of putting in all efforts to ensure a minimum of seven hours of power supply to farmers.Speaking on the occasion, Congress-turned-TRS MLA Jupalli Krishna Rao  alleged that power cuts were severe in Telangana compared to coastal Andhra and demanded that farmers should be compensated for loss of crop owing to disruption in supply.Senior legislator T Harish Rao said the state government should give top priority to completion of power projects in Telangana.The  government should also review its decision to purchase power at a  higher cost from private companies and instead focus on early completion of its own projects.first published:August 19, 2012, 10:21 ISTlast updated:August 19, 2012, 10:21 IST
