THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The capital city of God’s own country is all set to lure a large number of Russian globe-trotters next tourist season. Tour operators Oriental Routes, in collaboration with DR Tours, Moscow, will launch chartered flights from Moscow to Thiruvananthapuram during the forthcoming tourist season from November.The plan was announced in a press meet held here on Wednesday by a 22-member delegation from Russia consisting of travel agents and mediapersons who had been on an inspection trip to the State. An online inventory management system has been created as a joint collaboration of the two operators to ease the processes for registering the flight for the season.A Boeing 757 will fly from Moscow to Thiruvananthapuram with around 180 passengers on its first trip. There will be once-in-a- fortnight trips for a period of five months from November. That means, there will be eight to ten chartered flights from Russia to Kerala in the coming tourist season.The Indo-Russian Confederation of Culture and Tourism was also launched on the occasion.On the sidelines of promoting tourism, the confederation - a non-profit society - is planning elaborate two-way art, cultural and educational exchange programmes.“For years, there has been a kind of symbiotic relationship between the two countries. In search of new pastures in higher education, students from India generally fly to Russia and people from Russia come here to learn the nuances of our art and culture, including Ayurveda. The exchange programme, therefore, envisages strengthening of these ties by promoting tourism,” says Varghese Oommen, managing director of Oriental Routes.
