Top Reds wife stages stir in jail

BHUBANESWAR: Subhashree Panda, wife of top Maoist Sabyasachi Panda, went on a hunger strike on the Special Jail premises here accusing the prison authorities of biased treatment.Subhashree, alias Mili, alleged that the jail authorities were deliberately preventing her family members from meeting her. She also said the food, which her kin send for her, was not delivered to her. Demanding justice, she resorted to stir leaving the prison officials in a spot.Sources close to her said Subhashree was allegedly deliberately being targeted since she is wife of a top Maoist cadre of the State. “As an UTP she is entitled to the food which her family send for her but the prison officials have not been delivering it to Subhashree. On Saturday too, they sent her food but it never reached her,” said the sources.After the prison officials promised that her demands would be looked into, she relented. Subhashree was arrested by police in January last year from near Bhubaneswar. She is accused of having links with the  rebels.
