As many as 15 candidates including five Independents remained in the fray from the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat after the nominations of Trinamool Congress nominee Fazal Khan and another were rejected during scrutiny on Thursday.
Khan's nomination was rejected after he failed to submit Form 26 within the stipulated time and fell short of required number of proposers, said District Electoral Officer-cum- Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum Amitabh Kaushal.
Apart from Khan, the nomination of Bahujan Mukti Party candidate Mithilesh Das was rejected as none of the proposers had furnished the required electoral roll details as well as Form 26, which was mandatory under Section 33A(2) and 33(4) of the Representation of People Act, 1951, Kaushal said.
Among the candidates, nominations of sitting MP and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) candidate Ajay Kumar, Daman Chandra Bhakt of Bahujan Samaj Party, Niroop Mahanty of JMM and Bidyut Baran Mahato of BJP were found valid, he said.
Last date for withdrawal of nomination is March 29, while the second phase of polling in Jharkhand will take place on April 17.
Kaushal said 31,523 new voters including 15,158 women have been included in the electoral roll till the date of notification, and six cases of violation of the Model Code of Conduct have been registered in the Jamshedpur constituency so far.
