Tirupur to get Rs 17.5 crore police commissionerate

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday ordered creation of a separate police commissionerate for industrial city Tirupur at a cost of Rs 17.49 crore and ordered creation of 536 posts of new police personnel to man the unit.

An official release here said after Tirupur was upgraded as a Corporation and then as a new district but enough police stations were not created. Considering the ever-increasing population in Tirupur and the burgeoning traffic, the commissionerate is being created. As part of the measure, new traffic police stations and all-women police stations would be set up in addition to the existing ones. Apart from creating 536 new posts, 472 police personnel working under the control of the Tirupur District Superintendent of Police would be deputed for the Commissionerate.

With a view to implement the objective of the CM to upgrade all the police outposts in the State as full-fledged police stations, outposts in 12 places across TN would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 12.40 crore.  The places the outposts are located at: H7 Sub urban hospital (Chennai), Jambunathapuram (Tiruchy), Devankudi (Tiruvarur), Government General Hospital (Erode), Thimmampettai (Vellore), Velayuthapattinam (Sivaganga), Seethaparappanallur (Tirunelveli), Cherakulam (Tuticorin), Basin Bridge (Chennai) Manamadurai, (Tiruchy Railway district) and Tenkasi. The CM also ordered creation of 355 new posts of police personnel to man these stations.

Further, Jayalalithaa also directed that five new traffic police stations should be created at Manapparai (Tiruchy), Dharapuram (Tirupur), Thirupathur (Vellore), Avaniyapuram (Madurai) and Chromepet (Chennai). 

The CM has ordered creation of 80 posts for these stations and earmarked Rs 2.97 crore for the purpose.
