TIRUCHY: As many as 21 candidates have filed their nominations for Mayor with the Returning Officer K Veera Raghava Rao and 18 of them filed their papers on the final day here on Friday.On Friday, after the puja holidays, the candidates along with their supporters thronged the City Corporation. On a single day, 18 candidates including Vijaya Jeyaraj (DMK), Vijaya Sekar (Cong), M Girija (BJP), M Chithra (DMDK), Leema Rosline (PMK), Mary Suja (VCK), M Nagarathinam (PT) and D Suganthi (BSP) filed their papers.Similarly, as many as 800 candidates filed their papers for ward members. Interestingly, on the final day of nomination as many as 599 candidates filed their papers. Among the total 800 candidates, 188 filed from Srirangam Zone while 119 filed at Ponmalai zone. Similarly, 221 candidates filed their papers in Ariyamangalam zone and 172 candidates filed nominations in Ko Abhisekapuram zone. The scrutiny of nominations will be done at 11 am on October 10 and on the same day the final list of candidates will be released. After the High Court verdict on expansion of Corporation limit with 65 wards, the filing of nominations commenced on September 30 and the last date was October 7. Till October 4, only three candidates filed their papers.
