PURI: The District Headquarters Hospital here was again in the news on Sunday night, all for a wrong reason. This time, it was a tipsy ambulance driver who stranded a patient and her family members mid-way while they were going to SCB Medical, Cuttack.Sources said Basanti Devi of Kanas was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and a day later, she delivered a baby. However, due to medical complications, the baby and the mother were referred to SCB Medical for treatment. On Sunday evening, they started for Cuttack by the hospital ambulance. After travelling for 2 km near Charinulla village, the ambulance driver stopped the vehicle and got down. He then started shouting and squatted in the middle of the road.Sensing trouble, locals rushed to the ambulance and informed the police. Police personnel rushed to the spot and arranged for another ambulance which took the patients to Cuttack. The errant driver was arrested.
