In a classic example of commoners making a mockery of Covid-19 threat even inside hotspot Indore, hundreds thronged a liquor shop at city outskirts amid the lockdown on Sunday.
By doing this, the people not only put at risk the health of others but also led to a traffic jam in the region for hours.
Locals claimed that drunkards enjoyed their drinks on the road even as policemen deployed on the duty played a mute spectator at a nearby square.
The administration finally learned about the brazen breach of lockdown guidelines late evening when the district collector ordered sealing of the liquor shop based in Rau at the city outskirts.
The collector has also suspended excise sub-inspector Ashish Jain and served a show-cause notice to ADO Rajiv Upadhyay in the matter.
The slack liquor shop owner has been asked to keep the shop closed for 24 hours besides ordering excise officers to make liquor contractors adhere to the Covid19 safety guidelines strictly.
Despite a massive surge in Covid19 cases in the city (788 on Sunday), the liquor shop based in rural area Rau was open and tipplers who were deprived of booze in the city thronged the shop in large numbers. There were no social distancing norms followed and none was using sanitizers.
Excise officers remained aloof to the audacious act for hours and only swung into action when the news leaked to social media and was reported by several local news channels.
MP reports 3178 fresh cases in 24 hours
Continuing with the persistent rise in positive cases, MP reported 3178 cases in the last 24 hours taking up the number of active cases in the state beyond 21,000. Bhopal reported 526 and Jabalpur 244 cases in the last 24 hours.
CM to ask Pvt hospitals not to overcharge
Amid reports of private hospitals charging exorbitant fees from the Covid1-9 patients, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan will have a meeting with the owners of these hospitals. The state government could also review charges of private labs engaged in Covid19 tests.
