Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has ordered the forest department and the police either to shoot a man eater tiger dead or capture it alive.
A man eater tiger killed a pregnant woman at Maragayi village in Khanapur taluk of Belagavi district on Wednesday night. After this horrific incident, thousands of local villagers attacked the police and forest department officials demanding the killing or capture of the tiger, which has terrorized the forest dwellers in the last three days.
A 22 year old pregnant woman Anjana Hanabar was attacked by a tiger when she went to a stream to collect the water. The tiger killed her and ate parts of her body.
The forest department officials fired in the air to threaten the tiger when it continued to devour the body of dead woman. Local villagers gheroaed Belagavi MP Prakash Hukkeri and the government officials demanding an end to the menace of tigers.
The government has promised Rs 7 lakh compensation to the family of the victim and ordered the forest and police department either to kill or the capture the tiger immediately.
The police and forest department officials have formed six teams to catch the tiger. The same tiger once again killed a horse at Jamboti village near Daroli on Thursday morning.
According to tiger expert Dr Ullas Karanth, some so-called tiger experts misled the forest department by advising it to release this tiger into the forest, recently.
