Terrorists plan strike in Jammu, security beefed up
The security at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, has been stepped up.

Jammu: Security in and around Jammu has been beefed up following intelligence inputs that militants plan to strike here, a police official said on Tuesday.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been deployed at various vulnerable points across the city.

The security at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, about 50 km from here, has been stepped up "fearing possible strike by militants in run up to Navratras (Hindu festival) starting September 30.

"We are keeping a close watch and carrying out random frisking at various parts of the city. Searches are being conducted at different areas," said a police official requesting anonymity.

The security agencies have intercepted militants' messages on "strike at busy areas of the city especially market places".

There was a militant attack Aug 27 in a locality in the outskirts of the city.

The militants had called up some media organisations saying, "the attack was to take revenge for the atrocities committed on Kashmiri Muslims and the economic blockade of Kashmir valley by Jammu."

The official said: "Many plain-clothed security men have been deployed to keep a vigilant eye."
