New Delhi: TDP members, who have been protesting against the division of Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday promised to call off the stir in the Rajya Sabha after government and the Opposition appealed to them with an assurance that discussion would be held next week.
TDP's two members Y S Chowdary and C M Ramesh have been agitating on the Telangana issue for last four days in the Upper House. They have been staging their protest in the Well carrying the placards. Ramesh fainted today while protesting.
Expressing concern over health of TDP members, Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley appealed them to call off the protest, while asking the government to give some assurance to TDP members on the Telangana issue. "Our colleagues in TDP are agitating for last three days. Issue of Telangana is listed for discussion...May be satisfactory response be given to them," Jaitley said.
Minister for State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla appealed to them to call off their agitation. "I will ensure it is listed for discussion after the Question Hour on Monday and Home Minister makes a statement," he said.
Satisfied with the government's assurance, Chowdary called off the protest in the House.
