Lucknow: Two teachers were arrested on Thursday evening while the police have launched a manhunt for the third teacher allegedly involved in the gangrape of a 16-year-old girl in Unnao, 45 km from here.
Police said the geography teacher of the Class XI student had summoned her home on the pretext of explaining 'certain lessons' on Sunday.
"By the time the girl arrived, the English and the social science teachers had already reached the geography instructor's house. They allegedly raped her one by one and threatened her with dire consequences if she dared to report the matter to anyone," police said.
When the girl did not return home by sunset, her parents went about looking for their daughter and found her traumatised.
After debating whether they should expose their daughter to 'social ridicule' by lodging a report with the police, her parents decided to take up the matter with the authorities on Wednesday.
The classmates of the victim were the first to react. They thrashed the teachers on the school premises on Thursday before the police moved in and took them into custody.
The English teacher, however, escaped and is absconding. The geography and the social science teachers pleaded innocent and alleged that they were being targeted because of 'local politics of some teachers'.
