Kolkata: Amidst signals of an imminent exit of Tata Motors from Singur, the West Bengal cabinet on Thursday urged the company to roll out its small car from the state, but Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee told his ministerial colleagues he saw no hope of the auto major staying put in the state.
"The chief minister told us (cabinet colleagues) that he saw no hope of the project happening in the state. He said chances are absolutely nil," Land and Land Reforms Minister Abdur Razzak Molla said at the state secretariat after the cabinet meeting.
"He (the chief minister) said he had shown extreme flexibility and done his utmost by announcing a comprehensive compensation package earlier this month," Molla said.
In a statement after the cabinet deliberations, the ministers assured help and cooperation to the Tatas for implementing its car project at Singur.
The statement said though the issue was not on the agenda for discussion, following request from ministers it was unanimously decided that the cabinet would appeal to the company to stay on in th e state.
The cabinet also called upon the opposition parties to accept the rehabilitation package offered to the Singur landlosers and cooperate in making the project a reality.
The statement also urged the people of Singur and elsewhere in the state for their cooperation for development of the state.
