Tamil Nadu judge serves memo to staff for not washing undergarments
The memo from Judge D Selvam asked why a disciplinary action should not be taken against the staff as she failed to wash the undergarments and answered back to the judge and his wife.

A lower court judge in Erode has served a memo on a 47-year-old Dalit court staff seeking an explanation about why she did not wash undergarments at his house.

The memo from Judge D Selvam asked why a disciplinary action should not be taken against the staff as she failed to wash the undergarments and answered back to the judge and his wife when questioned about this.

"Please explain within 7 days why disciplinary action should not be initiated against you for your failure to wash the inner wear which were put for washing in the Sub-Judge’s house, and for throwing them away disgustingly, and when your attitude was questioned by the officer and his wife for retorting in an arrogant tone," stated the memo.

The staff, S Vasanthi, replied to the letter apologising to the judge and requesting him not to take disciplinary action against her.

The Judicial Employees association is planning to register protest against the alleged harassment before High Court registrar.

Reports said that the employee is the sole bread winner for her family and has two daughters.
