Around 1,500 fishermen and more than 90 mechanised boats were deployed for fishing in the Gulf of Mannar, through the Pamban South Port in the Ramanathapuram district. According to them, on Friday, the influx of fish was very low. However, when they returned to the shore after a few days, they found a high number of fish in various varieties. As per reports, fishes like katta, nagarai, kadavura, mundakkanni and rockfish came in abundance in the area. But because of such a high quantity, the prices of fish went down, revealed the farmers.
A local fisherman named Linton mentioned the prices these fish were being sold. According to him, the kadavura fish is being sold for Rs 300, nagarai and Mundakkanni for Rs 150 and Katta for Rs 250. The rockfish is being sold in the range of Rs 320 to Rs 350, he added.
