Islamabad: Amid reports of Taliban moving into yet another district in Pakistan's restive northwest after infiltrating Buner which is just 100 kms from Islamabad, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday warned that government will consider "other options" to curb attempts to spread the Talibanisation.
Weeks after authorities inked a peace deal with the Taliban in the restive Swat valley, Gilani said said the government will review its policy towards the Taliban if peace is not restored in the region bordering Afghanistan.
"If peace is not restored, if the writ of the government is challenged and there are attempts to take forward Talibanisation, certainly we reserve the right of other options as well," he told reporters.
His comments came as Pakistani security forces in the Taliban-infiltrated Buner region were targeted by militants who killed two policemen.
The policemen were killed when a van escorting paramilitary Frontier Constabulary personnel conducting a patrol near Swabi village in Buner was ambushed by militants, the first such incident since Taliban from Swat valley moved into Buner earlier this month, TV channels reported.
The attack coincided with reports that over 30 armed Taliban fighters had moved into Shangla, another district near Swat in NWFP. Militants began patrolling a market in the area, sparking tension among local residents.
