Swine flu ebbs as schools reopen in Pune
The first of 11 schools to report the infection is now open again.

New Delhi: There is some sign of respite in Pune, which had been gripped by swine flu over the past two weeks. The first of 11 schools to report the infection is now open again.

The Abhinav Vidyalaya reopened on Saturday after 10 days. The school had reported the largest cluster of around 20 swine flu cases among its students, but 19 of 20 affected students have now recovered and returned to their classes.

The school has issued circulars to parents asking them to be on alert for any flu-like symptoms among the students. Two other affected schools will reopen on Monday.

The number of Swine flu cases in Pune had crossed 90 and accounts for the largest share of H1N1 infections in Maharashtra.

Two more hospitals in the city have started isolation wards to treat the mounting infections of the virus that is believed to have spread through a teenage boy returning from the US under a cultural exchange programme.

Doctors treating the cases sought to allay fears among citizens saying that there was also a steady flow of patients that were being discharged after successful management at the civic and government hospitals.
