COIMBATORE: Controversial surrogate mother Meena (name changed on ethical grounds) earlier this week wanted to abort the baby when she was into her three months pregnancy. “When she was three months’ pregnant, the hospital did not administer her proper treatment claiming that the sponsor (biological father) had not paid the money for the same. When I questioned this, we were sent out by the hospital. Later, Meena went to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital seeking to abort the fetus. However, gynecologists advised against the procedure saying she was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and that any attempt to abort the baby would put her life at risk,” Meena’s husband Ramkumar (name changed), told the Express on Friday.Later, Ramkumar took his wife to his native village in Dindigul and got her admitted to a private hospital where she delivered a baby boy last Sunday. “We don’t have the means to raise the baby. We are willing to hand over custody of the child to its biological father. The hospital authorities never allowed us to meet the biological parents,’’ he claimed.
