The parents claim their son's death was result of police harassment.

Surat: A case of alleged suicide by a youth was handed over to the city crime branch on Friday after his parents claimed that their son's death was result of police harassment, police said.

Rajesh Patil who was arrested for indecent behaviour in public from Limbayat area on August 17 allegedly consumed a poisonous substance the next day, after being released on bail by a local court, they said.

According to police, Patil was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition. But as his condition did not improve he was referred to the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) on August 25.

Patil died on Thursday evening at SMIMER following which people of Limbayat, where he lived, have been demanding action against the police officers who had arrested him in the first place.
