ALAPPUZHA/KOCHI: Naval ship INS Sarvekshak  has located Don 1, the boat  sunk in a collision with an unidentified ship resulting in the death of two fishermen and the disappearance of three others off the Alappuzha coast.A 10-member Navy Clearance Diving team from Southern Naval Command  found the wreck of Don 1 lying at the bottom of the sea at 47 metres. The cabin of the boat was damaged and fuel leaking. However,  the hull was relatively intact. Don I was also enveloped by a maze of fishing nets making it hazardous for the divers to attempt entering the boat in fading light.The effort to locate the bodies of fishermen inside the boat will continue on Sunday,  a Navy spokesperson said. The Navy divers also familiarised themselves with the layout of the boat by visiting a similar fishing boat close by. INS Kabra had sailed out from Kochi with Clearance Divers and special equipment to the site of the accident. INS Sarvekshak commanded by Captain Adhir Arora detected the location of Don I late on Friday night using side scan sonars.Officials with the Directorate-General of Shipping have asked mv Prabhu Daya, the Singapore-flagged Indian vessel, suspected to be involved in the hit-and-run case, to report to Chennai on Monday.‘’DG Shipping has given direction to the ship owner. However, the other three suspected ships were not asked to report to Chennai port,’’ top officials with the Mercantile Marine Department said. The MMD has already started investigation into the incident.
