KOCHI: Former Speaker V M Sudheeran came down heavily on the statements made by Union Minister of Science and Technology Ashwani Kumar on the Mullaperiyar issue and demanded the removal of the minister. Such statements from a Union Minister raises questions on the very impartiality of the Union Government on the issue, he said.Even the latest findings by the high-level committee has established that the dam is weak. At a time when even the Prime Minister is trying to intervene and solve the issue, making such statements is highly inappropriate from a minister, he said.Sudheeran said urgent measures must be taken to resolve the Mullaperiyar dam issue. A core committee must be formed with experts and social and political activists cutting across party lines. Sudheeran said that the ministers from various political parties had come together on the issue without getting carried away by petty politics.“On the Mullaperiyar issue, the people are convinced that the political leaders are there to voice their opinion. The political leaders must continue to work in that manner,” he said.
