Bhopal: Taking a cue from RSS Chief K Sudarshan's advice to Hindus on population control, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Babu Lal Gaur has decided to revert the legislation that prohibited those having more than two kids to contest the Panchayat polls.
Reverting the legislation would make those with more than two kids eligible for contesting the polls.
Gaur, who was quick not to miss out on an opportunity to prove his loyalty to the Sangh agenda, says the decision has been taken as it was against women.
"Women were being harassed because of this law because when they had more than two children their husbands would disown the third child and this led to conflicts," Gaur reasons.
The legislation was introduced by the Digvijay Singh government with an aim to control population in rural areas.
And though it did work as an incentive for those adhering to family planning norms, the rural population feels reverting the same is a step towards maintaining a demographic balance.
"Having more than two children should not be a disincentive when it comes to contesting elections and the Sangh is right in what it feels," Bhagvat Singh Mevarata, husband of the sarpanch(head) of a gram panchayat feels.
Gaur may or may not be the state chief minister during the winter session of the state Assembly ? when he plans to introduce his legislation ? but he has succeeded in sending out a clear message of loyalty to the RSS.
But, this will definitely have an adverse impact on the government's family planning and government's population control programmes.
