HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed senior officials to obtain comprehensive reports on the drought situation, drinking water problems, rainfall and the prevailing dry spell in the state from district collectors.He asked planning department officials to tell the collectors during a video conference to personally visit places where dengue fever is rampant and to take preventive measures as well as initiate steps for immediate treatment of the affected.The chief minister asked CMO officials to convene a meeting at the earliest on important temple structures with officials of the departments of archaeology, endowments and others concerned, and the Centre.He enquired with planning department officials as to what steps the collectors were taking for the forthcoming Rachabanda II programme and ‘November Welfare Month’.The chief minister has recently held a meeting on Rachabanda where he declared that November 2011 would be observed as a welfare month.Rachabanda-II will be spread over a month from November 2 to 30 to cover the entire state along with other welfare programmes.In Telangana Rachabanda-II will be synchronised with the one-rupee rice scheme, Indira Jala Prabha and Rytu Mahila Sadassulu.The dates for the Rachabanda-II in districts will be finalised by the district collector in consultation with the district-in-charge minister concerned.As many as 1,116 mandals and 134 municipal wards to be covered under Rachabanda-II.On an average, there are three or four mandals (including municipal wards) per constituency and Rachabanda can be completed in these mandals effectively in a week’s time. District collectors are directed to ensure preparation of a list of beneficiaries for distribution of ration cards and pensions and allotment of houses. The benefits will be distributed to all eligible beneficiaries during Rachabanda at MRO/MPDO offices at mandal headquarters by people’s representatives and local officials.As for ration cards, collectors and civil supplies officials will take steps for distribution of coupons to the newly-identified beneficiaries who number around 30 lakh.About 24.40 lakh of them are applicants for white ration cards.Collectors and rural development officials will take necessary action for distribution of 4.64 lakh pensions, 48,426 of which are for the disabled. With regard to housing, collectors have to take action to sanction 2.20 lakh houses to eligible beneficiaries in consultation with the in-charge minister. As for infrastructure in schools, mandal officers shall prepare lists showing constituency-wise and mandal-wise availability and access to drinking water and sanitation facilities so as to facilitate on-spot sanctions.
