CHENNAI: Australian High Commissioner for India Peter Varghese on Tuesday said that there was a considerable increase in the students’ inflow in to his country after the government initiated several safety measures.Peter Varghese, who was in the city to address the Indo-Australian Chamber’s 22nd annual day, said,“as the safety issue was predominantly addressed by the government, the students’ inflow, from various countries, including India, into Australia has increased to considerable level.”Speaking about academic issues, he said that Australia was keen in developing the vocational education as well and it could materialise in the near future.He said that his country was planning to submit a white paper on Australia and the Asian Century by the yearend. It would focus on the position of Australia in Asia with specific regard to India, Peter explained. Regarding the supply of Uranium, the High Commissioner said that his government was taking measures to supply it to India and this he felt would strengthen the ties between the two countries. The supply would begin after both the countries sign an agreement for nuclear safety in the near future.On the closer economic cooperation, he expressed the hope that it would be smoother than in the case of China, which had been holding talks with Australia regarding the foreign-direct-investment(FDI) for the past 7 years. Referring to coal majors investing in Australia, he invited the State-owned coal companies to come to his country.
