BANGALORE: Even as former minister B Sriramulu is yet to spell out his next course of action, the ruling BJP is keen on fielding him in the Bellary bypoll, provided he seeks a party ticket unconditionally. The meeting of BJP senior leaders chaired by state BJP president K S Eshwarappa here on Thursday took an informal decision to give party ticket to Sriramulu keeping the party interests in Bellary and also the clout he wields in the constituency. But it was also decided in the meeting that the request for ticket should come from Sriramulu, that too without any condition.“Sriramulu is very much in the party and I am confident that he will not contest elections as an independent candidate,” said Eshwarappa. However, he maintained that the selection of candidate will be done by the party’s election committee and Sriramulu will be taken into confidence while issuing ticket.Meanwhile, the party is said to have sent a few ministers who are close to Sriramulu, including Raju Gowda, to know about his plans. It may be recalled that Sriramulu and the Reddy brothers were hell-bent on getting a cabinet berth despite their indictment in the illegal mining report by Lokayukta. Sources in the party believe that Sriramulu would be more than happy to contest elections from party ticket as his political career is at stake. “It is Sreeramulu who will benefit the most if he remains in the party,” a senior BJP leader said.It remains to be seen if Sriramulu who has distanced himself from the party after his resignation would accept the condition and contest election on BJP ticket.
