Spain now says no terror suspects from India
None of the 14 men arrested in Spain for planning a terror attack are Indians.

New Delhi: New information has come to light which has revealed that none of the 14 people who were arrested in Spain for allegedly planning a terror attack are from India.

The Indian embassy in Spain was in touch with authorities in Madrid to get details of the two Indians who had been held, but as it turned out, the people who have been detained are Pakistani and Saudi Arabian nationals.

The suspects were detained on Saturday in the northern port city's Raval neighbourhood, home to many Arabic-speaking and Muslim immigrants, in Spain.

Most of the 14 suspected terrorists are supporters of Lashkar-e-Toiba. They were allegedly planning to carry out suicide attacks in Barcelona on the orders of al-Qaeda in Pakistan, a media report had stated on Monday.

News agency PTI quoted the Spanish daily El Periodico de Catalunya as saying, "Those arrested had received orders to commit a terror strike in Barcelona during a meeting with senior al-Qaeda leaders in Pakistan's troubled Waziristan region. Several detainees were supporters of Lashkar-e-Toiba, a Pakistani group accused of carrying out bombings in India."

Citing unnamed sources, the daily added others were part of Takfir-ul-Hiyra, an extremist splinter group of Egypt's political movement Muslim Brotherhood.
