New Delhi: Sony's repeated failures in wooing customers with its wearable gadgets don't appear to be any deterrent. If a Bloomberg report is to be believed, Sony is working on an e-paper watch. The device, which is said would emphasise style over functionality, is likely to come with the face and wristband both made out of e-paper. The watch could be released as soon as next year.

There is no information as to which e-paper technology Sony would be using for its next-gen watch. For instance, the Pebble smartwatch comes with an LCD that is marketed as e-paper, Central Standard Timing's CST-01 watch comes equipped with a Kindle-style e-Ink display.

The watch in the making is believed to be one of the first products to come out of a new division formed by Sony CEO Kaz Hirai. The new division plans to release products that don't fit the framework of Sony's existing businesses. The division also includes the company's Seed Acceleration Program that motivates employees to pitch good ideas with the aim of getting funds.

Japan's loss-making Sony has been encouraging internal innovation to come up with a new range of products as it plans to slash its TV and mobile phone product line-ups to cut costs.
