Despite shortage of power, the AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd (APEPDCL) is ensuring sevenhour power supply for agricultural operations thanks to the latest customised software.
APEPDCL has developed customised software, which is extremely useful for displaying details of feeder-wise agricultural supply position on the website.
It helps monitor the power supply and ensure seven-hour supply to the farm sector. Officials of other Discoms too are directed to use the latest software.
APTransco chairman and managing director Hiralal Samariya will direct officials of other Discoms at a meeting on Monday to use the same.
“Our objective is to make allout efforts to protect the standing crops during the Kharif season.
For this power utilities have decided to adopt a five-point programme including use of the software,” Samariya said.
The programme covers use of the customised software, free transportation of non-functioning distribution transformers (DTRs) using GPS, ensuring timely replacement of failed DTRs i.e.
within 48 hours in rural areas, conducting substation-level meetings to get feedback from farmers and vigilance teams to make random inspections for monitoring sevenhour power supply.
Meanwhile, principal secretary (energy) Dinesh Kumar, in a letter, directed the APTransco to review the general power supply position and ensure seven- hour power supply to the farm sector.
Dinesh Kumar said government was supporting the utilities by providing a huge subsidy i.e. around `5,530 crore - `1,908 crore for domestic supply and `3,622 crore exclusively for free power to the farm sector -for year 2012-13.
It was higher than last year’s subsidy of `4,200 crore. Officials claimed Discoms had sufficient rolling stock of distribution transformers to replace the failed ones within 48 hours.
Discoms have been asked to ensure that the global positioning system (GPS) is installed for tracking the department vehicles for transportation of transformers and to avoid any scope of misuse.
Special teams of vigilance have been deputed to monitor load restrictions and to ensure seven-hour power supply to the agricultural sector.
Any deviation by the field officers of Discoms is being viewed very seriously. The state has the second highest number of agricultural power connections after Maharashtra. The total number of agricultural pumpsets in the state are 30.
77 lakh now. The number was 25. 99 lakh in 2007-08. It means that the number of pumpsets with electricity connection increased by 18.39 per cent.
